There are a number of different pieces of equipment used in Making a Quilt that are quite unique. Come and learn the way to use a Rotary Cutter and Cutting Mat, how the ruler workers even though it counts backwards.  We will learn about fabric, thread , needles, scissors and pins and pressing!

This is making your quilt ready for quilting.  The 3 layers - quilt top, wadding and backing - are basted together forming a quilt ‘sandwich’. Then quilting can be achieved either by hand or machine without any of the layers shifting or wrinkling.

To be able to sew a simple shape on to a piece of fabric without any stitches showing is indeed an amazing achievement! Such beauty can be created using this method. Lots of hints and tricks to help you on your way.

Slow stitching for the soul! It allows time for the mind to catch up to the body as you put the needle in, take the needle out, joining the 3 layers of the quilt together. Come and learn the technique of making tiny stitches, adding that lovely texture to your quilt that only comes from hand quilting. Very therapeutic and highly recommended.
If you would like to learn ‘big stitch’ quilting we will offer these as required.

We will be making the most useful equipment bag, a pattern from Sandy at Shiralee Stitches. Lots of pockets on the outside for storing pens, scissors, glasses etc. there will be a kit available or, if you prefer, just the pattern and use your own fabrics.
